Darley Dale Town Council - The Council

Parish/town councils are democratically elected local authorities with duties, powers and privileges conferred by Act of Parliament. In England and Wales, a parish council can resolve to call itself a 'town council' and its chairman the 'town mayor'.

Darley Dale Town Council was certified as a Quality Town Council on 17 February 2005.

The Quality Parish and Town Council Scheme is a government initiative (information - opens new window) for all parish and town councils in England. The accreditation process is conducted by the County Accreditation Panel on behalf of Her Majesty's Government and co-coordinated with the support of the National Association of Local Councils.

Parish and town councils are known collectively as 'local councils'.
